A metric says “No data”
HealthGrade can only read what is already in Apple Health, so the first thing to check is whether the data is there: open Health › Browse and look for the figure yourself. If it's missing there, no app can show it.
If it is there but HealthGrade isn't showing it, permission is the likely cause. Health › Sharing › Apps › HealthGrade lists every type individually, and a type switched off looks exactly like a type with no data.
Which parts need an Apple Watch?
Sleep duration, steps and activity work from the phone alone. Everything measured while you sleep needs something on your wrist: sleep stages, heart-rate variability, sleeping heart rate, the overnight heart-rate dip, breathing rate and blood oxygen.
Other trackers can write to Apple Health too, and HealthGrade reads whatever they write — but most write only part of the overnight picture. A card whose data your device doesn't record is missing rather than wrong.
When a metric has no data it drops out of the grade's weighting entirely rather than scoring zero, and the remaining weights stretch to cover it. That keeps the grade on a true 0–100 scale — but it also means grades built from different amounts of data aren't strictly comparable.
Why is my grade lower than I expected?
Tap the grade. Every metric appears with the points it contributed and the most it could have, which is usually enough to answer it — a 90 on Recovery contributes fewer points than an 82 on Sleep, because Sleep carries almost twice the weight.
The six weights are Sleep 28%, Activity 22%, Steps 16%, Recovery 16%, Sleeping HR 14% and Stress 4%.
Today's grade keeps changing
Steps and activity accumulate until midnight, so today's number climbs through the day. Last night's sleep and recovery are already final. The Trends tab excludes today from every statistic for the same reason.
Why are some readings never graded?
Blood oxygen and breathing rate are shown as measurements only. Consumer sensors sample them too sparsely to grade fairly, and a bad night's reading is often the sensor or how you were lying rather than anything about you.
What does Unlimited add?
Insights — eight trend cards over your last 14 nights — and Trends, including PDF export. It's a single purchase of $5.99, not a subscription. The daily grade, readiness and all six metric cards are free forever.
I paid but the app still shows the free version
Open Settings inside the app and tap Restore purchase. That re-checks your Apple ID's entitlements, which is also what happens automatically on a new device signed into the same Apple ID.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything it stored. To stop it reading Apple Health without deleting it, switch the types off in Health › Sharing › Apps › HealthGrade.
Not a medical device. Every number in HealthGrade is an estimate derived from consumer sensors, and none of it can diagnose a condition or replace advice from a clinician. Readings described as normal or in range describe the measurement, not your health. If something worries you, or a flag keeps repeating night after night, take it to a doctor rather than to this app.
